Stress
When a person feels that the demands or pressure placed on them are greater than their ability to cope, (given their current resources), they can experience the stress reaction.
Insufficient pressure can also trigger stress, as it can make people feel undervalued. Stress itself is not an illness, but can cause serious illness if left untackled long term, however a little stress can also be positive.
Stress can therefore be divided into good stress and bad stress:-
-
Good Stress : press
- challenging, motivating
-
Bad Stress : excessive/insufficient pressure
- overwhelmed, bored, undervalued, lack of recognition

The stress reaction occurs because the mind and body are preparing to deal with the perceived pressure or threat. The mind instructs the body to release a surge of hormones, mainly adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol, which maximise a person’s ability to face up to the pressure...or run away from it. This is also known as the ‘fight or flight’ response. When the pressure has passed, these stress hormone levels can once again return to normal. However, if a person is constantly feeling ‘stressed’ their body is constantly releasing the stress hormones and therefore there is no opportunity for the levels to return to normal. The stress hormones remain in the body causing the symptoms and effects of stress.
How can Hypnotherapy help me?
Hypnotherapy can help us to change our perception of stressful situations, we can learn how deal with situations differently and therefore reduce the symptoms of stress. We can become more aware of situations which may have caused us stress in the past and take a new insight into these situation.
During sessions you will learn tools and technques to help you daily and you may find you have these and will use them to manage your stress for as long as you wish. You will practice these between session to help reinforce the work we do in our sessions together.
You will feel that you are taking control back of your mind and body, building your confidence and self esteem as you can see how you are back in control.
Sessions will occur weekly and when we feel ready we will increase the gap between sessions to fortnightly, to monthly when we will terminate treatment when we both feel that you have achieved your goal.
